Although South Africa is considered a developing country, it has an infrastructure that is comparable to many first world countries around the world. This has allowed companies in the country to provide a wide range of information and telecommunication services to consumers and organizations. Saicom is one of those companies, and it just announced it is increasing its portfolio by providing a fully managed, software-defined wide area networking (SD-WAN) service with Hybrid WAN options powered by VeloCloud to address the needs of everyone from SMBs to large enterprises in the country.

Saicom has been providing telecommunication services since early 2000 by giving organizations the tools they need to improve communication and collaboration under one umbrella from a single vendor. This includes support for mobile, remote and home-working employees, video, conferencing and fiber. The announcement of the SD-WAN service will make it easier to connect businesses that have multiple sites using VeloCloud because it can be deployed using any existing IP connection, independent of the provider.

According to the company, the service will include everything from initial design and MPLS migration consultation, a hybrid WAN model as well as fully deployed and managed grid. The service will have multiple options for companies looking for on-premises solutions with a fully managed hardware option using a small form factor customer premise equipment (CPE) as well as WAN or LAN ports with integrated 802.11ac/n Wi-Fi on purpose-built edge device.

VeloCloud gives Siacom's SD-WAN quick and cost-effective deployment of new branches, Enterprise-grade WAN using broadband and private links with a platform that gives businesses of all sizes a virtual services insertion in the cloud and on premises. VeloCloud provides direct optimal access to enterprise and cloud applications and data with bandwidth expansion while improving operational automation.

By leveraging VeloCloud's technology, Siacom will have the flexibility hybrid WAN offers with optimal performance for applications that are bandwidth intensive, including voice and video in a cloud-ready network with a direct path to public and private enterprise clouds to eliminate data center backhaul complications.

The market for SD-WAN is growing, and recent report by MetTel (News - Alert) and VeloCloud revealed a 70 percent growth in demand in 2017, with support of more than 50,000 sites, with verticals in retail, manufacturing, transportation, waste-management and automotive suppliers to name a few. For the South African market, Siacom has partnered with one of the leading vendors in the segment, VeloCloud, to take advantage of the opportunities SD-WAN will provide.
