Businesses from SMBs to distributed enterprises are increasingly turning to SD-WAN solutions and services to better meet the needs of their geographically distributed campuses. With its host of benefits including flexibility, scalability and an affordable price tag (News - Alert), SD-WAN has made massive in-roads in the business market during the past few years.

The proliferation of SD-WAN means businesses need better ways to manage and optimize their networks. InfoVista (News - Alert), a company that has traditionally worked with network operators and service providers, has optimized its Ipanema 9.1 network orchestration solution for SD-WAN to capture the business market. The new offering was born out of the company’s 2015 acquisition of French optimization specialists Ipanema (News - Alert) along with a desire to diversify InfoVista’s customer base.

The Ipanema 9.1 solution supports SD-WAN management and is also available as a virtualized offering for VMware and KVM environments, making it beneficial for the company’s service provider partners as well as businesses. The company also offers a cloud-based version of the offering through its IpanemaGO platform.

“Our customers today have to juggle hybrid networks, combining fixed, mobile and MPLS,” said Sylvain Quartier, vice president of product and market strategies at InfoVista, in an interview with LeMonde Informatique. “The latest version of Ipanema brings more reporting on the connectivity between these different solutions and simplifies the orchestration of networks."

At the heart of SD-WAN management is measuring the user experience as well as network performance. The Ipanema offering aims to do this by handling optimization and management of the entire infrastructure, including application performance. The company uses a point of presence (PoP) architecture comprised of its carrier partners, like Equinix (News - Alert), to centralize the flow of orchestration information and ensure security and reliability.

Research and Markets predicts the overall SD-WAN market will be worth an astounding $9 billion by 2021, with growth fueled by the need for more effective network management and better security. Orchestration and management will play a major role in market growth, as more businesses turn to SD-WAN and its myriad benefits to meet their connectivity needs.
